I always look at the avatar before the name, so many people have names that all look the same to me all they have is their name an underscore and a number such as "Generic_Forum_member11"

One more thing, keep the names short, I hate when people's names stretch the forum, it looks ugly.

I will say I agree with EchoSex, people need avatars---and avatars that stick. If I can't recognize you by your avatar you don't make it into the "I Will Remember This Guy Or Girl" part of PieXags' mind. When I'm running through threads, I don't care about names, I look for avatars when I want to find a post. Or use the search button...but mainly avatars. I also agree that changing one's avatar is not such a good thing, EchoSex and Old Dood, having not changed their avatars in just about forever, IF ever, are easily recognizable as long time forum members with silly looking avatars. Changing your avatar can be alright, so long as it's within range of recognition from the old one. PieXags for example switches out from different flavors of pie, but always people know of PieXags. Chris, well...you just know it's Chris.

And about my good list, uh...I don't remember who's all on it and who's not. I actually started taking that pretty seriously though, so chances are if you're not on it, you won't get on it soon. (Besides, I'm not supposed to favor people as a mod! )

It's amazing how much more people will respond to you if you just have a tiny picture under your name.
I disagree. I've been lurking here on and off since the week guru went live, (a few months before you echo) and avatars mean nothing. If it were up to me, I'd remove avatars as an option. It just seems messy, and I never pay attention to them. If someone says something smart (which is a rare occassion on guru these days), then I'll recognize their name. Other than that, avatars are just a messy way to try and establish a unique persona on an online forum full of anonymous people. If you think you're worth recognition, say something smart. A random picture says nothing to me.

In all the time youve been here.... have you yet managed to create a post that isnt in some way derogatory to someone?

I havnt seen evidence of this from you yet.

However sometimes i am guilty of judging people on first impressions & subsequently not giveing them a chance to redeem themselves.

Oh, and avatars are important... if only for quickly and efficiantly finding your own threads and therefore replies and answers that relevant to you.

Avatars are only important when you plan on posting regularly on the forum.
people will notice you with a nice avatar and they will treat you differently.

but that's only my opinion, and I have no reputation on this forum so my post will probably be ignored

(I think only Dutchspeaking people will get the link from my nickname to my avatar)

D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E noticed PieXags doesnt talk in 3rd person while on forums.

D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E thinks PieXags is an interesting guy ingame, The 3rd person cracks D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E up into laughter.

D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E agrees with EchoSex about avatars.

I dont really feel like changing my Avatar, seeing as i've had it since I joined GWG, and I came from the C&C Series to GW. Feels weird from RTS-RPG, meh i'll get used to it.

Shin has a sharp tongue, but he tends to hit the truth more often then George Bush makes mistakes in his speeches.
If anything makes me remember someone, it is smart comments. There are a million avatars on guru, a sole avatar won't make me recognise someone. It helps though, I'll remember Monty as the one that pulled a fast one on Echosex easier if he keeps his avatar.

BTW: guildavatars are nice, for connecting people fast to each other.

Anyways, im still searching as i already stated, for that one avatar. Mine more often then not have the word Pwnd in it to distinguish it. But i am still waiting for that one avatar...
